BATON ROUGE, La (press release) – The Louisiana Art & Science Museum (LASM) will host the museum’s next Studio Saturday Art Class on Saturday, Jan. 20, from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m., led by local artist and scientist Meagan Moore. Participants will be able to explore the dreamscapes they wish to see in themselves for the new year by etching, carving, or painting their goals into gold hexagonal mirrors like those of the James Webb Telescope.
Currently featured in LASM’s Republic Finance Gallery’s exhibition Celestial Imaginings: Artists Exploring the Galaxies, Meagan Moore is a multidisciplinary artist, scientist, engineering student, teacher, and STEM Lab Director who collides worlds of thought into creative and often immersive educational experiences.
One of Moore’s more notable pieces in the exhibition, Mirrored Neuronal Nexus: The Self as Cosmic Dust Observing Cosmic Dust, bridges the celestial wonders of the James Webb Space Telescope with the intricate beauty of neural networks, using similar gold hexagonal mirrors like those of the James Webb Telescope.
“This workshop is a rare opportunity to blend science, art, and introspection,” states Meagan Moore. “This Studio Saturday Art Class invites participants to embark on a cosmic and cognitive exploration through the creative medium of mirror etching. Discover the beauty that emerges when the mysteries of space and the intricacies of the mind converge on a reflective canvas.”
LASM’s “Studio Saturdays” are supported by a grant from the Louisiana Division of the Arts, Office of Cultural Development, Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism, in cooperation with the Louisiana State Arts Council, as administered by the RAC. Funding has also been provided by the National Endowment of the Arts and funded in part by the Alma Lee, Norman and Cary Saurage Fund of the Baton Rouge Area Foundation on behalf of Cary Saurage. A limited number of scholarships are available for this class through an ArtLean Scholarship fund sponsored by Dr. Khanh Ho and LASM.
